After an unexpected prolonged 2019-2020 NBA Season, players across the association are now shifting their focus to the upcoming schedule. Professional athletes across the NBA have already begun their offseason preparation for the upcoming 2020-2021 Season. This year, tip off is on pace to take place on Tuesday December 22nd, 2020. For some, this regiment includes performing indoor cardio workouts as well as off season weight training, but for players like James Harden the off-season included designing a new sneaker.
When basketball spectators and enthusiast ponder on James Harden, they instantly become familiar with his work. The ESPN top plays and buzzer beaters immediately begin to illuminate within their memories. Their memory has served them correct. Since his debut in 2009, Harden has consistently worked on becoming more of a threat on the basketball court. In his rookie season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Harden averaged a mere 9.9 points per game that was also accompanied by a 1.8 assist per game average.
Since then, his dominant scoring and playmaking abilities have thrusted him into the conversation of one of the leagues “most dangerous” players. With an average of 35.5 points per game over the span of the last three seasons, there was no surprise when Harden was able to catch the eyes of numerous sneaker endorsers. When the oppurtunity was best, James Harden decided to let the Adidas brand represent his play style and he never looked back.
After months of working on the design of his new shoe, Adidas and Harden were finally able to settle on a design for his upcoming release. The “Harden Vol. 5’s” are one of the newest Adidas projects to hit the retail shelfs. The shoe has been scheduled to release on January 4th, 2021. Releasing on the market for $130.00, The “Harden Vol.5’s” have stirred up quite an uproar in the sneaker community.
Like most, this sneaker canvas started off as just a concept until the it was molded into another piece of sneaker art. The Senior Footwear Designer of Adidas, Jalal Enayah decided to join the collaboration for the hard wood star in an attempt to meet the needs of Harden and the Adidas team. With years of designing sneakers for Jordan and Adidas, Enayah was the right man for the job. Already working with Harden’s former teammate Russell Westbrook with his signature shoe for Jordan, Enayah quickly assisted in bringing Harden’s vision to life.
For sneaker heads, the “Harden Vol 5’s” will immediately capture their attention. The one piece mold that was used to construct the shoe is aesthetically pleasing and is also a huge safety feature that was incorporated in the shoe’s design. Like James Harden, this shoe is made for athletes who come into situations where landing correctly is of a huge importance. In most sports, landing is just as important as the actual take off. If an athlete lands on his foot incorrectly they are more susceptible to long term injuries.
The mold used in the “Harden Vol. 5’s” helps absorb the contact between hardwood and foot so that the athlete’s can worry less about injuring pivotal parts of their feet. With extra assistance from both Boost and light-strike cushioning, the “Harden Vol 5’s” should be one of the most comfortable sneakers to come out in the beginning of the next year. The interior design of this shoe will help Harden tremendously on the court due to the fact that it will give him a sense of support while trying to contort his body to score points. Harden has been exposed to minor foot injuries in the past so this shoe could be a major innovation for his game.
The “Harden Vol. 5’s” definitely accent the need for more supportive sneakers. Many basketball spectators remember when Michael Jordan had to switch shoes during the beginning of his career. On October 29th, 1985 Michael Jordan experienced a Navicular Stress Fracture in his left foot. During this game, Jordan wore his infamous signature shoe the “Jordan 1’s.” Many relate the injury to the type of shoe that was worn during the time Jordan’s incident. After experiencing such a serious injury so early in his career, Michael and the Jordan team began designing shoes that would compliment his play style. James Harden and the Adidas team have decided to put safety first as well.
The “Harden Vol.5’s” were also designed to create a sense of fashion while on the court as well. The “Crystal White” and “Cloud White” color ways were brought together to help accent other colors that are placed strategically on this sneaker’s canvas. Colors such as Royal Blue, Peach Orange and Bright Teal are all colors that will be displayed in a small and artistic pattern in an effort to merge the bridge between streetwear and the National Basketball Association. We have seen James Harden dominate in previous regular seasons but now fans are excited to see Harden take the Hardwood in his latest creative masterpiece.
