Prior to taking over the football program at the University of North Carolina earlier this year, Bill Belichick helped a lot of players win Super Bowl rings during his time as the head coach of the New England Patriots. So, it probably shouldn't surprise anyone that one of Belichick's former Patriots players has come to the defense of the coach's controversial relationship with Jordon Hudson.
During a recent episode of the "Green Light with Chris Long" podcast, former New England defensive end Chris Long shared his thoughts on why he believes Belichick has been facing a lot of criticism from the media for dating Hudson, who is more than 45 years younger than the longtime coach.
“I think a lot of people have been waiting to beat Bill up because he's always had the upper hand with the media. I think he's always had the upper hand with the media, and [now] he's got a younger girlfriend.
He is not the first older motherf***er to like younger women. So, I don't know why he's the one. I understand that there was some stuff at UNC, but let's not act like [the media wasn't] waiting to do this, whether or not she was on the football field for spring practice.”
Former New England Patriots starter fires back at critics of the relationship between Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson
Whether people like it or not, Long is correct about Belichick not being the first person to ever date someone who is much younger than him.
However, the former Patriots pass rusher clearly isn't factoring in that Belichick is arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history, so the public is always going to be interested in whatever is going on in his life.
It's also not like Belichick and Hudson have shied away from the spotlight during their time together. They were at the center of a controversial "CBS News Sunday Morning" interview earlier this year, they both appeared in a Dunkin' Super Bowl commercial in February, and she joined the former New England head coach at the 2025 NFL Honors ceremony.
Does anyone need to know absolutely everything about the relationship between Belichick and Hudson? No, of course not. But have they given the public multiple reasons to be interested in their time together? Yes, yes they definitely have.
