So much for love and basketball.
Amber Rose Howard, the wife of former Los Angeles Lakers starter Dwight Howard, has filed for divorce. The split comes just six months after Amber, also known as rapper Amy Luciani, tied the knot with the 2020 NBA Champion.
Now, she’s citing irreconcilable differences and requesting a mutual restraining order.
Wife of former Los Angeles Lakers starater Dwight Howard’s files for divorce
Amber filed for divorce on Tuesday, July 1, in a Georgia courthouse, according to documents obtained by multiple outlets. Amber cited that her marriage to the 39-year-old Howard is “irretrievably broken” with “no prospects for reconciliation.”
A day after filing for divorce, a mutual restraining order—which the parties initially entered into on January 2, 2025—was also filed.
Amber is requesting that all marital assets and property be divided between her and Dwight. She also requested alimony. He and Amber have no children together; he currently has five children by five separate women.
Amid the reports about her breakup, Amber broke her silence about the split. She spoke to The Shade Room, telling the outlet that although the split was “true,” she was “not sure how it got out into the public.”
“Still wrapping my head around a lot,” she added. “Although I know it won’t happen, I hope the public can give us grace and privacy right now.”
Dwight and Amber were wed on Jan. 11, 2025. The couple announced their engagement in December 2024 with a since-deleted Instagram reel featuring Amber showcasing her new engagement ring, according to Complex. “I was enjoying you so much out of the public eye, but here we are,” she captioned the Reel.
Amber has seemingly scrubbed any presence of Dwight from her social media. On July 8, she posted an aspirational message to her Instagram story: “Remember, if God brought you to it, He will bring you through it.”
As Amy Luciani, Amber appeared on seasons 11 and 12 of "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta." In 2023, she released her album, "Amy’s World".
In December, Dwight’s name was among the first-time nominees for the 2025 Basketball of Hall of Fame. Dwight Howard joined the NBA in 2004 when the Orlando Magic selected him as the No. 1 overall draft pick.
Dwight played 18 seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with the Lakers in 2020. He’s currently in his first season with Ice Cube’s BIG3 League, playing for the L.A. Riot.
As of July 8, he’s yet to speak on the split. That day, he posted on Instagram from his vacation in Jamaica.
“I said I was going to visit the place I saw the most in the comments, and it looked like Brazil, Philippines, and Jamaica were a tie, so I had to go with Jamaica because I've never been,” he wrote in an IG Reel. “I can’t [lie], spending the 4th of July here has been lit.”
Dwight is due back on the court soon. The LA Riot will take on the Miami 305 on July 14. That same day, the Detroit Amps face the Chicago Triples, the Houston Rig Hands battle the DMV Trilogy, and the Boston Ball Hogs go against Dallas Power.
