Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having the kind of year movies are made about. With his 27th birthday coming up on July 12, year 26 was one to remember. Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to an NBA Championship, winning his first MVP Award, and also the finals MVP.
The basketball star also unveiled his first signature sneaker and signed a four-year contract extension worth $285 million, and he was recently announced as the NBA 2K26 cover star.
The NBA basketball game revealed the cover this week, showing Gilgeous-Alexander dribbling the ball in a Thunder blue uniform, while rocking a pair of Gilgeous-Alexander‘s “Trophy Gold” signature sneakers.
The generational run continues ⚡️

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander announced as the NBA 2K26 cover star
Gilgeous-Alexander shared the news on his Instagram with the caption “Checking things off my check list,” before referencing the latest song from his fellow Torontonian, Drake, saying, “what did I miss?” With the year Gilgeous-Alexander just had, it doesn’t seem like he missed anything.
The NBA superstar averaged a league-high 32.7 points per game, while also adding 6.4 assists, five rebounds, 1.7 steals, and one block per game.
Playing in 76 games, his impressive numbers helped the Thunder finish with a 68-14 record, the best record in the league. Now, he has a new contract, a signature shoe coming, and a video game where he is the cover star.
While Gilgeous-Alexander will be on the cover of the standard edition, he isn’t the only 2K26 cover star. Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese will be on the cover of the WNBA edition, and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony will be on the cover of the Superstar edition.
All three cover stars will be represented on the Leave No Doubt edition of the game, with Gilgeous-Alexander front and center.
