Without a doubt, two running shoe brands have been making significant strides in terms of performance and aesthetics. One of these brands is HOKA, renowned for its distinctive, cushioned soles that provide a unique running experience. The other brand, On, offers a more minimalist approach with a lower-to-the-ground design and individual grips that evoke a retro aesthetic, reminiscent of older rubber-based shoes. This departure from the typical pronounced foam philosophy sets On apart from its competitors.

The Swiss-based brand isn't holding back from attracting some of the most high-profile sponsors, as they've recently secured a brand ambassador deal with popular actress and singer, Zendaya. After starting her career as one of Disney's bright young stars on shows like Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, the 27-year-old Oakland native has carved out a pretty successful career post-child stardom. Big-budget breaks in Marvel's acclaimed Spider-Man reboot series, wherein she played the role of MJ, the love interest of her future real-life boyfriend Tom Holland. The small screen has also treated Zendaya nicely, with a main role in HBO's controversial teen drama series, Euphoria. As of late, Zendaya has kept busy with key roles in the Dune film series, and a recent starring role in Luca Guadagnino's romantic sports drama film, Challengers.

Zendaya's pull as a transcendent star has earned her many other endorsements, including deals with Louis Vuitton, CoverGirl, Lancôme, Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, and Bulgari. Adding On to that impressive list of endorsements has Zendaya raving about their mission statement and appreciation for their products, where she said this in a statement:

"It’s no secret that I’ve been a big fan of On for a long time... I’m always wearing them on set, or when I’m traveling, rehearsing or running around with my dog. So it’s a full-circle moment to make this partnership official."

The deal is more than just being paid to wear and showcase the On brand, Zendaya will also play a role in contributing to product design, organizing creative campaigns, and promoting conversations around movement and wellness. Zendaya went on to discuss the On campaign video she filmed, titled "Dream Together with Zendaya", where she said:

"I owe so much to the people around me for getting me to where I am and this film recognizes and appreciates those who support and uplift us every day... This feeling of collaboration and inclusiveness shines through in what we’ve created."

Speaking on the massive partnership for On, their co-founder David Allemann released a statement wherein he spoke highly of Zendaya's star status and potential to help grow the brand to another level.

"We’ve been massive admirers of Zendaya’s ability to inspire a generation and dream big... We can’t think of a better partner to help us grow, evolve and connect with people around the world than Zendaya. This film is the beginning of more stories to come and we are eager to bring in new and distinctive voices alongside Zendaya to continue our mission to dream together.”"

The sky is the limit for On Running, as they look to continue making a name for themselves in the running shoe niche. There are certainly avid devotees who stick by their products, but having such a well-known pop culture figure like Zendaya attached to your brand will only elevate their room for success. We'll just have to wait and see where the Zendaya x On partnership will go next. Perhaps a Zendaya signature line of On sneakers? That would certainly be a moneymaker idea.
