Two WWE Superstars stepped up their shoe games at SummerSlam
The 2024 edition of WWE's premier summer event was nothing short of an action-packed extravaganza. The Superstars showcased at SummerSlam electrified the crowd at Cleveland Browns Stadium, drawing nearly 60,000 fans eager to witness a monumental main event. This thrilling showdown featured Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes facing off against Solo Sikoa, the newly self-proclaimed head of The Bloodline.
The matchup between Rhodes and Sikoa was solid, yet it was the unexpected return of a familiar face that set fans and social media abuzz. We’re, of course, talking about the original "Head of the Table" and "Tribal Chief," Roman Reigns. Reigns has been absent from television since losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania XL. For nearly four years, he dominated WWE, leading his Bloodline faction and running roughshod over the competition. However, with Reigns stepping away from the ring, his cousin Solo Sikoa emerged as the new de facto leader of the Bloodline, incorporating NJPW standouts Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, as well as MLW star Jacob Fatu, into the storied faction.
Reigns’ return to WWE television marks his first appearance in a heroic role since early 2020. He assisted his former rival, Cody Rhodes, in retaining the championship belt that Reigns had held for so long, all as a way to challenge his power-hungry relative, Solo Sikoa. Adding to the excitement of Reigns’ comeback was his choice of footwear, as The Tribal Chief sported the Jordan 1 Low x Trophy Room “Rookie Card Away” colorway.
These sneakers were first released in March 2024 to celebrate the rich history of the iconic Jordan 1 line, in collaboration with Trophy Room, a prominent sneaker retailer founded by Michael Jordan’s son. The colorway captures the classic aesthetic of retro Air Jordan 1s while incorporating a modern twist for a refreshing take on the design. The satin red accents, crisp black detailing, and gold finish on the Air Jordan wings logo made these shoes a perfect complement to the Original Tribal Chief's (OTC) comeback outfit at SummerSlam 2024.
It wasn’t just Roman Reigns who showcased his impressive shoe collection at SummerSlam: Cleveland PLE; on the Raw side of storylines, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio also made a statement by wearing a pair of notable luxury sneakers during the Women’s World Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan. The storyline that has been unfolding in recent months resembles a captivating telenovela, as Morgan attempts to seduce Mysterio away from his “Mami,” Rhea Ripley, who has been absent due to injury. However, Ripley’s recent return to WWE television has complicated Morgan’s efforts to separate the duo. This was underscored when Mysterio publicly rejected Morgan’s romantic advances on Raw a few weeks ago. True to his “Dirty Dom” persona, he deceived both the fans and his original Mami by turning on Ripley and ultimately costing her the match against Morgan.
SummerSlam: Cleveland was not just a hot WWE PLE; it also served as a showcase for superstars' sneaker heat.
As dastardly as Mysterio's actions were, he undeniably knew how to make an impression, especially with Dirty Dom rocking the Converse x Off-White Chuck Taylor All-Star Hi "Vulcanized" silhouette. First surfacing on the market in May 2018, this colorway of the Chuck Taylor All-Star Hi was a collaboration between Converse and Virgil Abloh's Off-White label, as part of the "Ghosting" Series. This "Vulcanized" model features a striking color scheme of white, cone, and ice blue. It showcases a refreshed translucent upper made from a semi-sheer material that aligns with its overall theme. The design incorporates a mix of materials, highlighted by a red zip tie, black branding elements, and an icy blue translucent sole.
