"Quarterback" season one debuted on Netflix in the summer of 2023 to overwhelmingly positive reviews, and for good reason. The show's first season followed Kirk Cousins, Patrick Mahomes, and Marcus Mariota as they progressed through the 2022 NFL regular season, and the show concluded with Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs making it to -- and winning -- Super Bowl LVII.
While the show was no doubt a smash hit, the producers had problems finding quarterbacks to participate for their planned second season in 2023. Whether they didn't want to be the show's next Mariota (the then-Falcons quarterback was benched for rookie Desmond Ridder) or it was too strenuous for them remains unknown. Netflix produced "Wide Receiver" instead, which was also a hit.
Good news, though - The show was able to find three signal-callers willing to partake in the series' second season. This time around, Cousins is back for another go but with his new team, the Atlanta Falcons, and season two will also follow Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions.
Netflix released the official trailer on Monday, and it sure looks like fans are in for a loaded season!
Netflix releases trailer for Season 2 of "Quarterback" featuring Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirk Cousins
The trailer kicks off with Burrow talking about how quickly time in the league goes by. "You blink your eye, you're in Year 5. Next time I blink my eye, it's gonna be Year 10," Burrow says in the trailer.
The trailer then pivots to Goff talking about how he's lucky to play the position. "You have to be that guy that your teammates rely on," Goff says. He discusses how the Lions' goal is to win a Super Bowl, and we then see a clip of him and his wife going for a walk, and she asks if that makes him nervous, to which he responds, "No. Can't wait. It'll be fun."
There are then clips of Burrow saying that the life of a quarterback isn't for everyone. There are shots of all of the different outfits he's fashioned over the years.
Cousins' clips don't show that he, like the former Falcons quarterback to appear on the show before him, also was benched midseason. Instead, we see his wife saying "It's not all on him but it's a lot on him" and shots from a game where the quarterback struggled in Atlanta.
We also see Burrow saying he bought the Batmobile, a brief clip of a reporter talking about Burrow's house being broken into, and Tom Brady saying how much he'd love to be the quarterback of the Lions (Goff says, "Too bad, Tom. You're retired).
While we won't see a Super Bowl in this season's edition of "Quarterback", Goff and the Lions ended up as the No. 1 seed in the NFC but were one-and-done in the playoffs. The other two quarterbacks' teams failed to qualify for the postseason.
Either way, this seems like another promising production of "Quarterback".
