For their upcoming season, the St. Louis Blues are taking a note out of the past.
The Blues joined the NHL in 1967 as part of the league’s expansion. The move also created the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, the Minnesota North Stars (now the Dallas Stars), and the now-defunct Oakland Seals.
While the Blues aren’t one of the “original six” NHL teams that started the league, they’ve been around for a bit, to the point where they’re old enough to have a “vintage” era, which they’re embracing for the 2025-26 season.
St. Louis Blues are "returning to their roots" with new uniforms
Earlier this week, the St. Louis Blues unveiled not just their new uniforms, but their new mentality. The new kits feature “modernized versions of the team’s heritage color palette and iconic Blue Note logo as part of an overall brand evolution,” according to the team’s announcement.

“The heritage jersey reflects the rich, compelling history of the St. Louis Blues, and it is one of the most classic jerseys in the National Hockey League,” said Tom Stillman, Blues Chairman. “The response of Blues fans to this jersey has been overwhelming, and we are pleased to share the updated versions with our supporters everywhere.”
While it would be funny to say that the Blues’ home jerseys are pretty “one note,” the team has embraced their original palette. Gone is the royal blue, replaced by something more of a vivid cerulean. The vibe, taken from what they wore for the 2017 Winter Classic, is reminiscent of 1970s hockey. It’s not the dated “Extreme ‘90s Sports” that a bolder hue would express.
The black pants are gone, giving the home uniforms a more monochromatic, streamlined look. Very crisp, very clean.
The new road uniform harkens back to what the team wore during the 2022 Winter Classic, and it’s not that big of a departure from their current setup. The black plants have been replaced with blue pants that pair well with the white of the new jersey.
Thankfully, the team abandoned the cream color they used during the 2025 Winter Classic. The team used a 1966 prototype for that game, and it’s good that it was sent back to the archives.
Our new look is more than nostalgia; it’s evolution.

We’re not erasing history – we’re remixing it.
The Blues logo has also been updated, shifting from a three-color to a two-color setup. Thicker blue and yellow keylines, along with a slight reshaping, make it feel more like an emblem.
Other details include tertiary marks, such as a fleur-de-lis, an interlocking "SL" logo, and a trumpet that represents not only the St. Louis Gateway Arch but also the historic St. Louis music scene. They’ve also incorporated custom typography for the uniform’s font.
For those who are fond of the royal blue uniforms, the team has saved them: they’ll be transitioned to official third jersey status moving forward.
The St. Louis Blues finished the 2024-25 season with a 44-30-8 record, earning their first postseason spot since 2022. The Blues faced off against the Winnipeg Jets in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, trading wins to force a Game 7.
The Blues were ahead by two goals in game seven when the Jets mounted a comeback, with Cole Perfetti’s goal (with three seconds left in regulation) to force overtime. In double overtime, the Jets’ Adam Lowry scored, winning the game 4-3 and sending the Blues back to St. Louis.
