Chaos and the second day of the NBA Draft aren't typically things that go together, mostly because not many casual fans care enough about the second round to invest that much emotion.

Spike Lee is not a casual fan, though.

He's never been shy about his New York Knicks fandom, from sitting courtside during the heyday of the team's run in the 90s to recently being at Madison Square Garden for the Eastern Conference Finals. Spike is pretty much synonymous with the Knicks at this point and there's a non-zero chance that the team's next owner builds him a statue to honor his support.

Lee showed just how dedicated he is to the Knicks by showing up to support the team on the second night of the NBA Draft this year. Keep in mind, the NBA Draft used to be a one night event where the second round was essentially a speed round doubling as a formality. Even though the league has split it into two days, there's not a ton going on to garner excitement on Day 2.

That didn't stop Spike Lee from going on an emotional roller coaster with his team when it came time for their pick to be made.

Spike Lee proved how real his Knicks fandom is at the NBA Draft this year

Assuming he's not making a movie or working a press tour to support one of his projects, Lee has made a tradition of standing and supporting the Knicks on draft night for years. New York didn't have a first round pick this year, so Lee showed up on Thursday night to watch them make a second round selection.

The Knicks took Nevada's Kobe Sanders, a pick that Lee displayed his textbook enthusiasm for despite it happening so late in the draft.

His excitement was wasted energy, though. Almost as soon as the pick was announced, ESPN reported that Sanders had been traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. The broadcast team even went so far as to address Lee directly, since there was that little attendance at that point.

As it turns out, the Knicks simply swapped spots with the Clippers and moved back one spot. So while Spike's initial reaction to the pick was for naught, he didn't have to wait long to stand back up and support his team.

New York ended up taking Mohamed Diawara out of France, which is such a deep cut international draft-and-stash prospect that a top talent evaluator had absolutely zero notes to pass along about him. That didn't stop Spike from applauding and getting on board, because he's always been a real one like that.

We can all only hope to find someone who loves us with as much loyal dedication as Spike Lee is devoted to the Knicks.
