When Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets back in 2023, he and Sauce Gardner sparked an unlikely bromance that people couldn’t get enough of. Despite the nearly 20-year age gap between the two, they became fast friends, always laughing together, sitting with each other court side at basketball games, and frequently doing their unique handshake they created together. Now, the two are no longer teammates, and they aren’t talking that much these days.

Gardner recently revealed that in an interview with Complex, and even explained why. The star corner told Brighid Tully that he and Rodgers communicated much more frequently at the beginning of the offseason. However, once it became clear the veteran quarterback would be joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, the communication between the two started to fall off.

Sauce Gardner hasn’t spoken with Aaron Rodgers much since he joined the Steelers

Gardner joked that the fact they will be opponents in Week 1 of the NFL season played a part in them talking less, however, he made sure to clarify he was just joking. But ultimately, there doesn’t seem to be a beef or a falling out between the two former teammates, as Gardner said he and Rodgers will likely chop it up before the Jets take on the Steelers in Week 1.

While everything with Rodgers tends to be blown out of proportion, this shouldn’t be. Gardner’s words didn’t sound like he harbored any negative feelings for his former quarterback, so this shouldn’t be spun into a type of bad blood situation between the two specifically. Everyone typically speaks to their coworkers less when one moves on to another opportunity.

Nevertheless, the two will line up against each other in Week 1 when Rodgers returns to New Jersey with his new team. While the veteran quarterback may not have a problem with Gardner, he has made it known he didn’t really like how things ended with the Jets. That will give fans a fun storyline to start the NFL season with.
