There might not be a better way to showcase your love for sneakers and a particular model in particular than to create a wood sculpture of them to display, but that might be too much work, right? Not for New York based artist Steve Thomson who has blended his love for sneakers and woodwork into one and even into his career. Creating pieces for names like A$AP Rocky, PJ Tucker, and even Jordan Brand itself in the golf department with a reworked Air Jordan 9 model, Thomson has gained the attention well deserved for such a unique and time consuming occupation.
While the latest piece of work has been in the works for about two years now, Thomson made sure to get the piece showed off to the public before the official release of the Air Jordan 1 Low "Chicago" slated currently for Holiday season 2025. Claiming the sculpture took years of trying to figure it out, Thomson has struck gold this time around. He constructed the 3D model using no paints or stains as well.
While no paints were used, there is certainly color used to match the classic sneaker. The red parts of the sculpture are formed from specifically padauk wood, the white is sourced from holly, and the black comes from wenge giving off the different hues of the respective pieces of the shoe.
Thomson constructed the replica sneaker to the tee, including details like the logos and branding of the shoe while maintaining the vintage image. Rounding out the details, the piece sits at a life-like size 10 sneaker, with the measurements being 11.5” x 4.25” x 4.25” in total. The piece is for sale right now according to Thomson himself, so all you need to do is send over a DM to @happylifewood on Instagram and see if you are lucky enough to score on this 1 of 1 item.
