While plenty have been able to reap the rewards of the success that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has experienced since entering the WNBA last year, some have been victims of her accomplishments on the court as well.
Most recently, Front Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiegel reported on Friday that Rachel DeMita was recently fired as a courtside correspondent for Ice Cube’s Big3 basketball league after she posted on X about Clark highlights last Saturday while working courtside during a Big3 game at the same time.
Saturday, June 14th, was, of course, when Clark returned to the court for the first time after missing five games due to an injury. DeMita, who is also a basketball influencer with over one million followers on Instagram, apparently couldn't resist the urge to post about the Fever guard, as was the case for a lot of people watching Clark's return. The problem for DeMita, though, was that her post wound up getting her fired by Big3.
Posting about Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark while working reportedly costs Rachel DeMita her job with Big3
Even though it resulted in someone losing their job, DeMita's post is even more evidence of how much of Clark has done to increase the visibility of the WNBA in such a short period of time.
Indiana's games have become must-watch TV not only for WNBA fans, but fans of sports and basketball in general. Everyone wants to see what she's going to do next and if she can live up to the huge hype that was placed on her shoulders when she joined the league last year.
So far, Clark has been everything and more that the WNBA could have hoped for. Jerseys are selling out, TV ratings are increasing, and tickets to a Fever game are very hard to come by.
For DeMita, the best news coming out of her departure from Big3 is that she should now have more time to watch and post about what Clark ends up doing out on the court for the rest of the WNBA season.
