Caitlin Clark rivalry gets even messier after bold new twist

Two of the biggest names in the WNBA (if not the two biggest names) are Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The two entered the league at the same time and squared off against one another in the 2023 NCAA Championship, with Reese's LSU Tigers taking down Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes.

That game has gone down in history for a variety of reasons, but what most people probably remember from it is when Reese pointed to her ring finger right in front of Clark. This gesture was done because Reese's Tigers were about to win a ring, and Reese wanted Clark to know it.

The gesture exploded with the reactions ranging from loving the trash talk to others not liking that Reese was showboating. Whatever your stance was on the situation, you likely had one, and that was huge for women's sports. It was a moment everyone was well aware of.

During a recent appearance on the "Joe Budden Podcast", FS1's Joy Taylor actually argued that this moment, the one where Reese taunted Clark for not getting a championship ring, is the reason why people talk about Clark so much to this day.

"We would not be talking about Caitlin Clark the way that we do if it wasn't for that moment with Angel Reese."

It's worth noting that the hosts of the show were all skeptical of Taylor's comments.

Joy Taylor's take on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is a doozy

Clark was the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, landing with the Indiana Fever and immediately helping them reach the playoffs as a rookie. Reese was selected seventh overall by the Chicago Sky, who finished 14 games under .500 during Reese's rookie season.

As of this writing, Clark and the Fever are hovering around .500 while Reese's Sky continues to struggle, sitting with just three wins on the year.

Considering that whenever Clark's Fever hits the road and that road venue is filled with Clark (and Fever) fans, it's doubtful that the moment between her and Reese is what has made her such a household name.

Rather, Clark is talked about in high regard because she was an absolute baller in college. Clark helped put women's college hoops on the map and has now played a huge part in the WNBA's popularity explosion over the last year and a half.

Reese is also a popular name in the league, but as Taylor put it, she's looked at as more of a villain, which she said sports leagues need. Clark and Reese are both fun to watch and there's no doubt that they've helped the league grow.

Reese's "feud" with Clark, however, is not why people are still tuning in to watch the Fever star ball out every game.
