As 2025 begins to a hot start filled with sneaker announcements of releases coming up, sneakerheads who are into the laid-back aesthetic of the classic dad shoe might be more excited than those who love to hoop and throw on easier-to-style casual sneakers. First to enter the fray is rapper, chef, TV show host, and man of many talents, Action Bronson, who is taking his collaboration with New Balance to new heights with his 990v6 Made in USA collection.
The sneaker by Bronson and New Balance covers a variety of hues, which can make it an interesting styling option, but it remains an early top contender for a possible sneaker of the year, in my opinion. Dubbed the "Amazonia," the multi-colored collaboration features a splatter of pink, grey, tan, red, freshwater, and a who's who of color assortments all on one shoe. Nicknamed the "Travis Scott" of New Balance collaborations by Ariel Helwani during an interview with Bronson on 'The Ariel Helwani Show,' Action Bronson is transforming the way that New Balance is seen in streetwear.
With Ye's inclusion of the Yeezy 500 and 700 models with Adidas, the rise of the dad shoe look in modern footwear had its rise but did start to lose steam. With these new models set to release, a new resurgence in the design style could rebound back into multiple wardrobes.
Along with Action Bronson, streetwear designer and brand Joe FreshGoods enters with yet another collaboration with New Balance that looks to be another hit in the catalog. The first collaboration between the Chicago native and NB came about in 2020 with a shoe still talked about and sought out by many to add to their collection in the “No Emotions Are Emotions” design. This time around, Joe FreshGoods takes to the New Balance 992 with a lighter scheme but adds the similar touch that was so loved just 5 years ago by sneakerheads all over. The new drop named "Aged Well" features a minimalistic palette and arrangement of colors, adding pink, tan, grey, and white in suede and mesh materials gracing the shoe.
While there are no official release dates set for the two collaborations with New Balance, both are set to sell out quickly and be gracing the feet of many worldwide as soon as they get in hand. For those interested, as soon as details roll out, Under The Laces has you covered.
