Next time, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders might just call an Uber

Sanders recently made headlines, but not for anything he did during the Browns’ offseason mini-camp. Instead, the son of NFL Icon Deon Sanders clashed with the Cleveland police department, racking up a pair of speeding tickets since the start of June.

And when he first spoke about the incidents, the former Colorado Buffaloes signal-caller said how he would learn from these recent mistakes.

“You know, I made some wrong choices, personally,” said Sanders, during a celebrity softball game on Thursday, according to ESPN Cleveland. He attended the event alongside Browns tight end David Njoku.

Sanders and Njoku first joked about the offenses. “He’s just a regular kid. He didn’t do nothing wrong,” said Njoku, with Sanders adding, “I’m just a little boy.” The quarterback said that he has to “own up to [his mistakes]," and he made "not great choices.”

“I [will] learn from them,” he said, before returning his attention to the game and his phone.

Sanders paid off his tickets on June 20, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He paid $269 in fines and court fees to settle his ticket issued on June 5. The Ohio State Highway Patrol pulled Sanders over at 5:14 p.m. when he was driving 91 mph (in a 65 mph zone) down Interstate 71 near Brunswick Hill Township, part of the Cleveland metro area.

The Browns' rookie also paid $250 in fines and court fees for a June 17 speeding ticket. Sanders pulled over for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph speed limit zone at 12:30 am. Sanders was going northbound on Interstate 72 near Strongsville. The second ticket also cost him four points on his license.

Sanders failed to appear at a June 16 court date for the first speeding ticket. Peter John-Baptiste, a spokesperson for the Browns, told Cleveland.com that Sanders was “taking care of the tickets.”

Footage of the June 17 incident seems to indicate Sanders wasn’t the only one speeding. According to a report obtained by the New York Post, Sanders was pulled over along with a woman, identified as Jasmine Hammond, who was also driving over the limit in another vehicle.

“I got you at 101 miles per hour,” an officer said in the bodycam footage. “I got her at 92.” The officer reportedly said that he was going to “give your girl a break…I’m not going to give her a ticket…but 101, I got a dash cam and stuff, man.”

This is not the first time a Cleveland player has gotten into trouble for speeding. For instance, Browns rookie Myles Garrett wrecked his car in 2022 while speeding on a rural road in Medina County. Numerous other NFL players have also struggled with the speed limit in the past.

“I just feel like in life and everything, it’s just me versus me, you know?” said Sanders after the Browns’ rookie minicamp earlier this year. “I can’t control any other decision besides that. So, I just try to be my best self at all times.”

The Browns selected Sanders as the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft back in April. In terms of the team’s depth chart, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel are all competing with Sanders for a spot on Cleveland's final 2025 roster.
