Nike is expanding with an all new headquarters building and, naturally, when trying to figure out a name for it, they looked up to LeBron James for inspiration.
It was a few days ago that Nike revealed that they were expanding their headquarters on the WHQ campus. This campus will serve as where its entire Beaverton-based Advanced Innovation team will be working primarily at. Among many changes to the campus, a new Nike Research Lab will be built. As a result, the big swoosh brand will increase its own space by nearly five times it current size that it is right now. It was also feature an entire basketball court, endurance track and a turf training pitch.
The fact that there is a basketball court coming to the big swoosh HQ near you is even more apropos considering that this new building coming to the HQ is being named after one of the most prolific basketball players in NBA history and arguably the very best player currently playing in the National Basketball Association today: LeBron James.
The LeBron James building will be built and finished between now and the year 2020, along with the previously announced building named after Serena Williams. Work on these buildings have not begun yet, but the details are currently being etched out.
When asked for further comment, LeBron went on to say that having a building named after him sounds “surreal.” He went further by saying, “It’s been an honor to be a part of such a great company for the last 18 years. And to know that a building with my name will reside on campus — it’s truly an honor, and I feel truly special.”
Expect more details to emerge about the LeBron James and Serena Williams buildings, respectively. Keep up with future updates by checking in with our site.
